Vol. 95 No. 8

Ceisteanna. — Questions. Oral Answers. - Macroom Fever Hospital.

asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health if he is aware that the Fever Hospital at Macroom, erected at very great cost, is now vacant, and unlikely to be used for its original purpose; and whether, under these circumstances, he will consider the question of converting it into a home or hospital for the aged and invalid poor on the lines of the Nazareth Home at Mallow.

There are already two county homes for the accommodation of aged and infirm poor persons in the South Cork Public Assistance district, one in Cork City and the other at Midleton. The establishment of another home at Macroom is not necessary. The Fever Hospital building at Macroom, which has a maximum complement of 20 beds, would not, in any event, be suitable for the purpose. It is at present used for accommodating the staff of Macroom Cottage Hospital and also for storage of A.R.P. supplies.
