Vol. 95 No. 8

Ceisteanna. — Questions. Oral Answers. - Uneconomic Holdings (Meath).

asked the Minister for Lands if he is aware of the fact that there are a great many uneconomic holders in County Meath; and, if so, whether he is prepared, in view of the large tracts of undivided land in that county, to resume the distribution of land with preference to natives of the county.

I am aware that there is a number of uneconomic holders of land in County Meath, and also in all the other counties. In carrying out the policy of relieving congestion, the Land Commission endeavour to spread their activities over the whole country in so far as suitable land is available for acquisition and division. In dividing land in County Meath and elsewhere the Land Commission give primary consideration to the enlargement of existing uneconomic holdings in the vicinity of the lands acquired.

The question of increasing the operations of the Land Commission depends on the cessation of emergency conditions.
