Vol. 95 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Partition Conference.

asked the Taoiseach if he is aware of the desire of all National Parties in both Eire and Northern Ireland for a conference on the question of Partition, and if it is his intention, as head of the Government, to convene such a conference.

I do not think that such a conference at the present time could effect anything useful. It is well known that all Parties here and all Nationalists in the Six Counties ardently desire the restoration of the Six Counties and the unity of the national territory. The Government has this problem foremost in its mind and any Party having views as to steps that might be taken towards its solution need have no hesitation in conveying them, if it so desires, to the Government.

One thing you can do, and that is to make up your mind whether you are in the Commonwealth or not.

Is the Deputy asking a supplementary question?

The Deputy knows what the position is.

Nobody but yourself knows that.
