Vol. 95 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Petrol Allowance for Farmers and Tillage Contractors.

asked the Minister for Supplies if he will be prepared to grant a permit and small petrol allowance to tillage contractors and extensive tillage farmers for small vans or private cars, with a view to facilitating them in their tillage operations and to enable them to transport more quickly supplies of oil, kerosene, spare parts, etc., for their tractors and machinery.

The petrol supply position at the moment precludes the possibility of permitting farmers the use of petrol-driven private cars to facilitate them in their tillage operations. Tillage contractors who own at least two tractors which are engaged whole-time on hire for agricultural work are permitted petrol-driven light commercial vehicles for the purpose of transporting oil and other equipment in connection with the operation of such tractors at various farms. Extensive tillage farmers are permitted to use petrol-driven lorries for the transport of agricultural produce. Both tillage contractors and farmers may use gas producer-driven private vehicles for personal transport in connection with their business.
