Committee on Finance. - Electricity (Supply) (Amendment) Bill, 1944—Money Resolution.

I move:—

That for the purpose of an Act of the present session to amend and extend the Electricity (Supply) Acts, 1927 to 1942, and in particular to authorise and provide for the preparation and execution by the Electricity Supply Board of schemes for the generation of electricity by hydraulic power derived from suitable rivers (in addition to the Shannon and the Liffey), the acquistion and management by the said board of fisheries and fishing rights in such rivers, and the making to the said board of grants of public moneys for the electrification of rural areas it is expedient to authorise—

(a) the advance to the Electricity Supply Board out of the Central Fund or the growing produce there of of such sums not exceeding in the aggregate seven million, five hundred thousand pounds as may from time to time be required for purposes other than the electrification of rural areas;

(b) the advance to the Electricity Supply Board out of the Central Fund or the growing produce there of sums not exceeding in the aggregate five million pounds for the electrification of rural areas;

(c) the payment out of moneys provided by the Oireachtas of such sums as may be required for the repayment to the Central Fund in accordance with the provisions of such Act of the present session of one moiety of the total amounts advanced for the electrification of rural areas;

(d) the charge upon and payment out of the Central Fund or the growing produce thereof of the principal of and interest on any securities issued for the purpose of borrowing under such Act of the present session;

(e) the payment out of moneys provided by the Oireachtas of such expenses as may be incurred by the Minister for Industry and Commerce in the administration of such Act.
