Vol. 96 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Wood Fuel in Balbriggan.

asked the Minister for Supplies if he has received representations from the Balbriggan Town Commissioners and the Assistant City and County Manager concerning shortage of wood fuel in Balbriggan; if he is aware that the Dublin merchants will supply wood fuel to Balbriggan only at 46/- per ton and the Balbriggan merchants have to pay for delivery in addition to that; and, in view of this and of the fact that Balbriggan merchants have under price regulations to sell timber at 50/- per ton, if he is prepared to allow the Dublin City price to be charged in Balbriggan.

Representations of the nature mentioned have been received by me. I am aware that Fuel Importers (Eire) Ltd. supplies firewood to merchants from its dumps in Dublin at 46/- per ton and that if any merchant wishes to bring some of this fuel to Balbriggan he has to pay the transport costs. I am not, however, prepared to allow the Balbriggan retail price of 50/- per ton to be increased on this account as I do not consider it essential that firewood from dumps in Dublin should be made available in Balbriggan.
