Vol. 96 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Waterford Bus Service.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he is aware that there is no bus running from Dungarvan to Waterford via Bonmahon, Annestown and Tramore; whether he has received any complaints in the matter; and whether he will make representations to Córas Iompair Eireann to provide a bus at least one day a week to serve this route.

Since the omnibus service to which the Deputy refers was suspended in 1941 representations for its restoration have been received in my Department on two occasions.

Having regard to the serious supply position, it is not possible at the present time to authorise the resumption of this or many similar services.

Can the Minister give any possible guarantee as to a future service, even if not in the near future? The residents there are very perturbed about the state of affairs at present, as they are six miles from the nearest railway station or bus and they feel that they are neglected. Can the Minister hold out any hope that something will be done in the future?

I assume that this and other services which have been suspended will be restored as soon as the supply position permits.
