Vol. 96 No. 17

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Central Bank Appointments.

asked the Minister for Finance if he is aware that the Central Bank of Ireland by the terms of an advertisement in the Press for the appointment of junior male clerks has confined these appointments to pupils of secondary schools, thereby excluding from the competition candidates from all other schools, no matter how suitably qualified they might be and violating the principle of open competition as recognised by the Government for recruitment to the Civil Service; and; if so, if he will consider making representations to the Central Bank, as an institution established by statute, to adopt a more democratic method of making appointments.

I have no functions regarding recruitment for the staff of the Central Bank, which is regulated by Section 16 of the Central Bank Act, 1942.
