Vol. 96 No. 20

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Cigarette Quotas.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will state if there is anything in the supply position to warrant the release of an increased quota of cigarettes to traders; and, if so, when it will become available.

Deliveries of unmanufactured tobacco for home consumption are at present restricted to approximately 90 per cent. of the deliveries in the 12 months ended 31st March, 1940. The present stock position does not justify any increase in deliveries. The matter is constantly under review and an increase in deliveries will be allowed as soon as the stock position warrants it.

Can the Minister give any indication when that position will arise?

I could not.
