Vol. 96 No. 23

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Renovation of Ballaghaderreen Doctor's Residence.

asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health if he is aware that in December of last year the County Manager, Roscommon, advertised for tenders for renovation of the doctor's residence at Ballaghaderreen; that the occupant of the residence advised the county manager to accept the tender of £57 which was not the lowest tender, and that the county manager agreed to this proposal; and, if so, and in view of the fact that this practice, if allowed to develop, might tend to nullify the use of tenders, if he will indicate what steps he intends to take to ensure that there shall not be a recurrence of this procedure.

My Department was not consulted by the local authority regarding the work referred to, which, being of a minor nature, can be undertaken at the discretion of the local authority. I shall, however, request the county manager's observations on the points raised in the question and communicate subsequently with the Deputy.
