Vol. 96 No. 24

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Retired Civil Servants' Pensions.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will amend the Emergency Powers (No. 354) Order, 1945, so as to include civil servants who retired prior to the 1st July, 1940.

The Order referred to applies to persons who before retirement were subject to the Civil Service (Stabilisation of Bonus) Regulations, 1940, and whose pensions were accordingly assessed in relation to the stabilised cost-of-living figure of 85 even though the actual cost-of-living figure was higher. The scope of the Order precludes its application to persons who retired before the 1st July, 1940. In any event, no corresponding adjustment of pension is called for in their cases inasmuch as their pensions were related to the cost-of-living figure applying at the date of their retirement.
