Vol. 97 No. 4

Irish Legal Terms Bill, 1945—From the Seanad.

The Dáil went into Committee to consider amendments inserted by the Seanad.

I propose to take these amendments now, if the House agrees. I recommend their acceptance.

Agreed.

Mr. Boland

I move that the Committee agree with the Seanad in amendment No. 1:—

In sub-section (2) paragraph (g) deleted and the following paragraph substituted instead:—

(g) such other person or persons as the Government may from time to time nominate.

This is an amendment to Clause (g) of sub-section (2), Section 2. It provides for the appointment of more than one person to act on this committee. Under the Bill originally, there were to be two joint secretaries, one a member of the translation staff, and the other a person with a knowledge of Irish who is also a legal man. It was pointed out in the Seanad that it might be desirable to have some other good Irish scholar in addition, and, in order to provide for that, this amendment has been brought in. I recomment its acceptance.

Question put and agreed to.

Mr. Boland

I move that the Committee agree with the Seanad in amendment No. 2:—

(6) The following members of the committee shall act as joint secretaries of the committee:—

(a) the member nominated under paragraph (f) of sub-section (2) of this section, and

(b) the member under paragraph (g) of the said sub-section or such one of the members so nominated as the Government may from time to time select,

and there shall be paid to each joint secretary such remuneration (if any) as the Minister for Finance may from time to time direct.

This is consequential on amendment No. 1.

Question put and agreed to.
