Vol. 97 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Rathmines Improvement Works.

asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health if he will state why the scheme for widening and improving Castlewood Avenue, Belgrave Square, North, and Charleston Road, Rathmines, which was certified as being suitable for the provision of employment in July, 1943, and concerning which a public inquiry was held in January, 1944, has not been carried out.

From a consideration of representations made at the public inquiry it became necessary to consider, not alone the specific applications in respect of individual parcels of land, but also whether the scheme of road widening on which the Preliminary Orders are based would be satisfactory. The alignment of the road as proposed to be widened was open to objection from a traffic point of view and a new alignment had to be considered. To do so a further survey had to be obtained from the local authority. That survey and the consequential legal questions that are involved are under consideration.

Does the Parliamentary Secretary not consider that that information might have been conveyed to the Dublin Corporation? They wrote to the Ministry and they did not get any reply. That is why I am asking the question.
