Vol. 97 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Road Safety Precautions.

asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health if, in view of the diminished traffic on the roads for the past five years and the consequent loss of traffic sense amongst all sections of the community, especially children, he will consider introducing new rules of the road, driving tests, etc., to prevent the loss of life which will otherwise inevitably ensue.

The general by-laws for the control of road traffic which were made in 1937 provide a well considered code of rules of the main road and in view of the resumption of motor traffic such revision as may be required is under examination. Press and radio propaganda will be necessary to bring the code of rules and regulations directly to the attention of each group of road users, pedestrians, cyclists and drivers of vehicles as traffic increases. This aspect of the matter is receiving consideration.
