Vol. 97 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Mountmellick Service Vehicle.

asked the Minister for Supplies if he is aware that public service vehicle, Registration No. Z.7002, which was one of the service vehicles for Mountmellick area, is now being used in Blackrock; and, if so, and in view of the fact that there are sufficient hackney cars in the Blackrock area, if he will ensure that the owner will resume operating or alternatively that his permit be transferred to some other person who will be willing to operate in the Mountmellick area, where there is urgent necessity for a hackney car.

I am not aware that the small public service vehicle No. Z.7002 is being used in Blackrock, Dublin. No permit for that vehicle has been issued since January, 1945. Neither am I aware that there is urgent necessity for a hackney vehicle in Mountmellick area, but in accordance with normal practice a permit will be given for the use of the car in Mountmellick by the present owner if he resumes residence there or by some other approved person.

May I ask the Minister if the present owner of the car does not take up residence again in Mountmellick, will he be prepared to consider an application from anybody else in the town who is prepared to operate the car in the public service? The car is badly missed in the area.

If some person who would be regarded as suitable to receive a permit for this hackney vehicle applies for a permit he will receive it.
