Vol. 97 No. 17

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Arrangements for Imports.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will state if any forward arrangements have been made for the importation into this country of such raw and partly finished materials, fuel, machinery and mechanical replacements and stores as are likely to be required; and, if so, if he will state generally the nature of such arrangements and the means of financing such imports.

It is not clear what the Deputy means by "forward arrangements". The position is that industrial and commercial firms are endeavouring to make contracts with suppliers for materials, machinery, parts and stores, and will be assisted in this connection by the Government in whatever manner may be required.

If, on the other hand, the Deputy means the entering into contracts or commitments directly by the Government for the purchase abroad of any of the commodities mentioned, the answer is in the negative.
