Vol. 97 No. 17

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Release of Tyres.

asked the Minister for Supplies if, in view of the report of the carriage inspector of hackney vehicles and the altered circumstances, he will make an Order to release tyres from stocks held by Dunlops and Goodyears for hackney owners, who, in many cases, find it difficult to keep their vehicles on the road because of worn-out tyres and the impossibility of getting them replaced or remoulded.

The rubber supply position has necessitated the suspension for some years past of the manufacture of tyres for all light motor vehicles. There has been no alteration in the circumstances in this connection and consequently there are no stocks of new tyres which can be made available for hackney vehicles.
