Vol. 98 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Shipping Space.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will, in future, ensure that the limited amount of shipping space available is used to bring in supplies of an essential nature or those most likely to benefit the community generally, instead of allowing the importation of wines, expensive fruits and other luxuries.

Priority has always been given to essential goods when allocating space on Irish ships. In the absence of other cargo at a particular port I see no reason to exclude fruits or other goods that may be available.
