Vol. 98 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Import of Machinery.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if, in view of the cessation of hostilities in Europe and the improved supply position, he will now make representations to the British Board of Trade with a view to securing an export licence for Messrs. Salts (Ireland), Limited, Tullamore, for the importation of the carding and combing machinery necessary in order to process Irish wool at Tullamore.

A British Board of Trade export licence is not required for textile machinery. In the circumstances, the Deputy's question does not arise.

Does the Minister undertake to afford to any other firm seeking to import carding machinery of this character the same facilities as he may in future afford to Messrs. Salts?

I cannot see that the question of affording such facilities arises.

By way of suspension of import duties or any other restrictions which may apply to machinery of this character?

There is no import duty or other restriction on machinery of this character.
