Vol. 98 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Duties of Wardmistresses.

asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health if he is aware that, in the case of St. Kevin's Institution, Dublin, hospital wardmistresses engaged on day duty are required to work 63½ hours and 53½ hours on alternate weeks while those engaged on night duty are required to work a 72-hour week, having only one night off per week; and, if so, if he will state if any representations were made to him by the commissioners administering the institution with a view to rearranging the duties of wardmistresses so as to provide for them a shorter working week; and if it is the intention of his Department to introduce at an early date revised regulations covering the hours of work and working conditions in this institution and similar ones.

No representations have been made to me by the commissioners. The making of regulations governing the hours of duty and working conditions of the wardmistresses is primarily a matter for the commissioners.
