Vol. 98 No. 1

Resignation of A Deputy.

Do fuaras fógra i scríbhinn ó Mhícheál O Cléirigh ag eirí as bheith ina chomhalta de Dháil Eireann.

I have received from Deputy Mícheál O Cléirigh notice in writing of his resignation from membership of Dáil Eireann.

So the Irish Press was right, and the Government Information Bureau wrong. What do you know about that? Are we to assume that this notice arises out of the publication in the Irish Press and the denial by the Government Information Bureau?

Is this in order?

The only business before the House was an announcement from the Chair, which takes effect as from now, that a Deputy has resigned. On that there is no comment.

I am commenting that the Irish Press knew it before the Government.

There is to be no comment. There is no matter for the consideration of the Ceann Comhairle or the House. Any Deputy is entitled to resign, and the Deputy has done so.

We all would do it in these circumstances—£1,200 a year is £1,200 a year.
