asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health if he will state in respect of each county council and county borough council the total amount of the council's overdraft on the 31st March, 1944, and the 31st March, 1945, and the rate of interest payable in respect of such overdraft; and the rate of interest at present payable on overdrafts by these bodies.
Written Answers. - Overdrafts of County Bodies.
With the exception of one county borough council (which had an overdraft of £707 6s. 11d. on ordinary revenue account on 31st March, 1945) no county or county borough council had an overdraft on its ordinary account on either 31st March, 1944, or 31st March, 1945. The following table shows the amounts of the overdrafts on turf production accounts of county councils on the dates in question.
The rate of interest paid by local authorities on overdrafts on revenue accounts is 4 per cent. and on turf production accounts 3 per cent. by special arrangement.
