Vol. 98 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Widows' and Orphans' Pensions— Amending Legislation.

asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health if he will state when it is proposed to introduce amending legislation so as to safeguard, for the purpose of Widows' and Orphans' Pensions Acts, those persons who emigrated to Great Britain to take up employment there during the emergency and whose widows and children may not be qualified at present to receive benefit under the British scheme, and whose insurability may have lapsed under the Irish Acts.

It is hoped to introduce an amending Bill before the end of the present session.

Will the Parliamentary Secretary say whether the Bill will cover retrospectively those cases in which Irish citizens have lost benefit owing to the fact that their husbands were employed in England?

That matter is under consideration, and everything will be done to deal with it sympathetically.
