Vol. 98 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Netting of Plover.

asked the Minister for Justice if he is aware that a large number of persons who formerly found a livelihood in the netting of plover are now deprived of it owing to the provisions of the Game Preservation Act, 1930; and, if so, in view of the fact that plover are migrant birds, he will amend the existing legislation with a view to permitting the netting of plover under licence.

I have considered this matter, but I do not propose to introduce legislation on the lines suggested by the Deputy.

The Minister will, of course, recollect that when he sat on the opposite side of the House he was a supporter of the claims of those people to net plover. Will he now say why, having changed his seat in the House, he has also changed his outlook on this matter?

Mr. Boland

One reason, I suppose, is that I am older now than I was then.
