Vol. 98 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Division of County Offaly Estates.

asked the Minister for Lands if he will state if he has received representations requesting the division of the lands of Mr. Richard Telford, Tara, Clara, County Offaly, amongst smallholders and landless men in the area; and if, in view of local congestion in the area, he will request the Land Commission to give this matter special and early consideration.

The question appears to refer to the lands of Raheen held by Mr. Richard Telford, Tara, Clara, County Offaly. Representations have been received requesting the division of these lands. The Land Commission had under consideration the question of acquiring the lands but decided to take no action in the matter.

Would the Minister request the Land Commission to list these lands for attention when the Land Commission resumes acquisition?

Those lands were inspected by the Land Commission and found unsuitable for the purpose.

Then that ends the matter?

asked the Minister for Lands if he will state when it is proposed to divide the Hackett Estate, Greenville, Clara, County Offaly, amongst deserving applicants in the area; and if he will request the Land Commission to give immediate attention to this case.

The Land Commission expect to obtain possession of the Hackett Estate at an early date and it will be divided as soon as possible thereafter.
