Vol. 98 No. 4

Order of Business.

It is proposed to take the business as on the Order Paper, Nos. 1 and 3. The debate on No. 1 will be limited to three hours, and in No. 3 the business will be Motion No. 3, Private Deputies' business.

Is it intended to sit tomorrow?

To what date is it proposed to adjourn?

Next Wednesday.

Before Deputy Davin leaves: he has suggested that he desires to raise on the Adjournment the subject matter of Question No. 6, on the grounds that I am not in possession of full information about this matter. I suggest that any information he has to give me could be given to me much more suitably in the form of a memorandum rather than by raising it on the Adjournment. I may say that I have already had extensive correspondence with Deputy Davin on this matter. I very carefully examined it, and have taken all the steps open to me in regard to it. As I already told the Deputy in reply to the question he put down, I have no power to review an allocation of a cottage which has been made in accordance with the regulations. Therefore, I cannot see what useful purpose will be served by raising the matter, or what further service I can be to the Deputy.

The Deputy might see me in the meantime.

I do not like to be provocative or disrespectful to the Minister in this matter, but I say with the greatest respect that the information he gave in answer to my question does not correspond with the facts in regard to the conditions. He states, for instance, that he has no information—

If the Deputy wants to have it on the adjournment he may not have it now.

The Minister in his reply has not disclosed the facts as I know them. If it is more convenient for the Minister to deal with this matter on any other date, I am quite prepared to meet him. I might also say, in reply to the Minister, that it is six months since I submitted a memorandum in this case to the Department, and I think inside six months it should have been possible for the Department to give me an answer one way or another.

The Minister is holding up the inspector's report.

The Deputy might see me in the interval.
