Vol. 98 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Rural Postal Deliveries.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if he is aware of the serious hardships experienced by dwellers in rural areas as the result of the want of a daily delivery; and, if so, if he will now state when he intends to restore such deliveries in rural areas.

I refer the Deputy to a similar question by Deputy Gorry and my reply of the 7th November last. Some time must elapse before the inquiries already set on foot can be completed. The Deputy should realise that many of these deliveries in rural areas would not be self-supporting.

I asked the same question over a year ago and I received the same unsatisfactory reply. Does the Minister realise the position in some of the rural areas where people have no service from Saturday to Tuesday? Can he give these people any assurance as to when they will have an everyday delivery?

Each of these cases must be examined on the individual merits. If the Deputy has any particular case in mind, we will be glad to know about it and will inquire into it specially.
