Vol. 99 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Factory Inspections.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will state, in respect of the last three years for which the information is available, (a) the number of persons engaged by his Department as factory inspectors for the purposes of the Factory and Workshop Acts; (b) the number of premises, distinguishing between factories and workshops, subject to inspection under the Act; (c) the number of such premises inspected (i) once, and (ii) more than once; and (d) the number of prosecutions for contravention of the Acts.

The number of persons engaged by my Department as factory inspectors for the purposes of the Factory and Workshop Acts during the past three years was 19. The number of premises subject to inspection under the Acts, distinguishing between factories and workshops, the number of premises inspected and the number of prosecutions for contravention of the Acts for each of the years 1942, 1943, and 1944 are given in the annual reports under the Factory and Workshop Acts for these years. The report for the year 1945 is not yet available. It is not possible at short notice to give the number of premises inspected more than once.
