Vol. 99 No. 14

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Lough Erne Hydro-Electric Scheme.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will state the names of the contractors who tendered for the Lough Erne Hydro-Electric scheme; the name of the firm of contractors who were awarded the contract; if his attention has been drawn to the fact that the insurances in connection with the whole scheme have been placed by the contractors with an English company; and, further, if he is aware that no Irish insurance brokers were asked to quote for this important scheme; and if he will make a statement on the matter generally.

I am not in a position to state the names of the contractors who tendered for the work in connection with the Erne development scheme. I understand, however, that the Electricity Supply Board decided to place the contract with Cementation Ltd., Doncaster, England.

I have received no representations concerning the placing of insurances in connection with this contract. I am informed, however, that it is not correct that no Irish insurance broker was asked to furnish quotations.

Has the Minister's attention been drawn to the fact that some months previous to the contract being given out the contractor who secured the contract stated that he had already got it and has made a similar statement in connection with a scheme in my constituency, and also at Leixlip?

The Deputy believes every fairy tale he hears.

Is the Minister prepared to investigate any fairy tale that is put up to him?

I have no time to investigate fairy tales.
