Vol. 99 No. 17

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Trade Board for Messengers and Porters.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce whether he has received a copy of a resolution, passed by the Irish Trade Union Congress at its last annual meeting, calling for the establishment of a Trade Board to cater for juvenile messengers and porters in the distributive trades; and, if so, what action he intends to take in the matter.

I have received a copy of the resolution passed at the last annual congress of the Irish Trade Union Congress, requesting the extension of the Trade Boards Acts to juvenile messengers and porters in the distributive trades. In accordance with their provisions, these Acts can be applied to a specified trade but not to a specified class of worker. It is not, therefore, practicable at present to adopt the proposal of the Irish Trade Union Congress.
