Vol. 99 No. 17

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Wheat Vouchers.

asked the Minister for Agriculture whether he is prepared to sanction an arrangement for the payment of 2/6 in cash instead of issuing a voucher valued at that sum, in respect of each barrel of wheat produced by growers who had land rented by conacre during the emergency period; and, also, if he will give the same consideration to farmers who have sold their farms and who are in possession of such vouchers and have no use for them as they do not now require to use these vouchers to secure reductions in the prices of manures.

The answer to both parts of the question is in the negative.

When is the Minister going to redeem the manure vouchers?

We hope to commence next year.

The mice will eat them if you do not hurry up.

Is a dealer bound to issue those vouchers to a man?

Yes, any authorised buyers are bound to issue them.

If people engaged in conacre production during the emergency have no use for the vouchers, can they transfer them to other people who can get an exchange of manure for them?

The vouchers can only be used as part payment for manures.

Yes, but suppose I were in receipt of vouchers myself and did not need manures, could I transfer them to someone else?

Yes; there is such a thing as a blind eye. Do not talk about it—do it.

It can only be used for manures.

Supposing the man has no need of the manures?

He must burn it, in that case.
