Vol. 99 No. 19

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Prices of Maize.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he will state whether any cargo or cargoes of maize arrived since 1st February last; if so, if he will state the quantity imported and the import price; further, if he will state whether he proposes to fix the wholesale and retail price of this maize, and, if so, what these prices will be.

Approximately 5,300 tons maize have been imported since 1st February. Distribution of this quantity has been postponed pending the arrival of further consignments next month. It is anticipated that the average landed cost of the various cargoes will be in the region of £20 per ton.

The question of fixing wholesale or retail prices for the maize will be considered in due course.

The actual cost, landed, is £20 per ton?

The landed cost for the first three or four months will average £20.
