Vol. 99 No. 19

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Supplies of Fishing Nets and Cord.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he is aware that the continued shortage of salmon fishing nets and cord for repair of nets is seriously hampering those engaged in the fishing industry, particularly in the River Slaney area; and whether he is now in a position to state by what date he expects that the British Controller of Nets will be able to release additional supplies of these articles.

I am aware that those engaging in fishing operations, whether sea or inland, are seriously handicapped by the continued shortage of nets and mending twine. It is expected that further supplies of such gear will become available by July next, although not at all in sufficient quantity for our requirements.
