Vol. 101 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Export of Goats.

asked the Minister for Agriculture whether he is aware that non-nationals masquerading as gypsies are purchasing goats in Éire and driving them over the Border for shipment to Britain; and whether his Department is prepared to issue licences to Irish citizens for the export of such animals.

I am not aware that goats are being purchased and exported in the circumstances stated. Owing to the need for ensuring that stocks of goats in the country will not become unduly depleted, the present restrictions on export cannot be relaxed.
