Vol. 101 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Civil Service Assessments to Income-Tax.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will state, in respect of Civil Service Departmental assessments made under Schedule E of the Income Tax Act, 1918, for each year since 1937-38 the amounts of (a) the gross incomes assessed; (b) the actual incomes assessed; and (c) the amounts of income-tax collected.

Income-tax statistics are not compiled at present in such a form as to enable the information required by the Deputy to be given. It would not be possible to obtain the particulars asked for without considerable expense which it would be difficult to justify, and without diverting staff from its main function, the assessment and collection of the tax.
