Vol. 101 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Erection of Bridge at Lifford.

asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health if he is aware that as a result of the Order closing the Letterkenny-Burtonport Railway, the Great Northern Railway Company propose running a bus service direct from Strabane to Dunfanaghy; if he is aware that the bridge at Lifford, which spans the River Foyle, is in a very dangerous condition; and whether, in the circumstances, he will open negotiations with the Government of Northern Ireland to secure their co-operation in the erection of a new bridge at Lifford.

I am informed that the facts in regard to the inception of a bus service from Strabane to Dunfanaghy are as stated by the Deputy. I understand that there have been discussions recently between Donegal and Tyrone officials as regards the condition of the bridge at Lifford. No proposals have yet been received.
