Vol. 101 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Sunday Train Services.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will state whether consideration has been given to the question of restoring Sunday train services throughout the country generally, or on certain specified lines; and if so, whether he is prepared to approve of the operation of a passenger service on Sundays between Limerick, Ennis, Lahinch and Kilkee in order to facilitate, in particular, townspeople and their children, whose health would benefit considerably by trips to such seaside resorts.

Following a slight easement in the coal supply position I found it possible to authorise the operation again this year of certain Sunday services to seaside resorts and to agree to two additional services. In all these cases the distances covered by the services are comparatively short. I regret that it would not be practicable to authorise further services including those to which the Deputy refers but the position will be re-examined if any further improvement in coal supplies should occur.
