Vol. 101 No. 15

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Wheat Stocks.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will state whether the stocks of wheat at present in the country will be sufficient to meet requirements until the harvest is gathered this year.

Present stocks of wheat will not be sufficient to meet estimated requirements until the harvest. The estimated deficit is 30,000 tons. Application has been made to the Combined Food Board for the allocation of this quantity of wheat. In consideration of the urgent need of many European countries, no imports of foreign wheat are being sought before August, when it is hoped that supplies will be forthcoming sufficient to meet our flour and bread requirements up to the next harvest.
