Vol. 101 No. 15

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Balbriggan Harbour.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce whether he is aware that grave dissatisfaction is felt by the fishermen of Balbriggan, County Dublin, at the condition of the harbour there; that, owing to the silting up of the harbour it is very difficult for them to bring their boats into or out of the harbour; and if he will arrange for the immediate execution of the necessary dredging works.

The Dublin Port and Docks Board are the authority responsible for the maintenance of Balbriggan Harbour. Prior to the passing of the Harbours Act, 1946, expenditure by the board on that harbour could not exceed the revenue collected at the harbour. That limitation has now been removed by the Harbours Act, 1946, and the board will now be in a position to incur the full expenditure involved in the maintenance of the harbour.
