Vol. 101 No. 15

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Wages on Rural Employment Schemes.

asked the Minister for Finance if he is aware of the discontent felt by workers, engaged on rural employment schemes, arising from the payment of lesser rates of wages on such schemes than the rates paid by local authorities; and if he will agree to bring the rates of wages on such schemes up to the level of the rates paid by the county councils in the area in which the work is being carried out.

The rate of wages paid to workers on rural improvement and minor employment schemes has hitherto been governed by the wages fixed by the Agricultural Wages Board for adult agricultural labourers. The board have recently decided on increased rates, and the revision of the wages of workers employed on the schemes referred to will follow in due course.
