Vol. 101 No. 17

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Right of Asylum.

asked the Minister for External Affairs if he will state from what source and in what terms representations were made to the Government to have handed back to a French concentration camp certain German naval officers and ratings who escaped to Kinsale early this year; and if he will further state why the right of asylum was not accorded to these men.

No formal representations were made by any Government. There were, however, discussions on the matter with the French Minister as a result of which arrangements were made for the sending of the French corvette to Cóbh Harbour to take the men back to France. The question of asylum in the ordinary sense did not arise.
