Vol. 102 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Supply of Fish Barrels.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if it is now possible for him to arrange for a supply of fish barrels to be made available, from home or imported sources, so that buyers in the West Cork fishing centres may formulate their plans for the curing and export of autumn mackerel; and if he will indicate how soon such barrels will be available and their approximate price.

At the present time I do not see any prospect of securing a supply of fish barrels from outside sources. The home supply position is also difficult, mainly on account of the shortage of suitable timber and hooping-iron. Consequently I am not in a position to indicate how soon fish barrels will be available to meet requirements, or the approximate price of such barrels, if available.
