I have furnished the Deputy, in reply to his other question, with the information asked for at (a) (i) and (ii) in this question, in respect of each of the following schools:—

As regards the information asked for by the Deputy at (c) in his question, there was a vacancy for an assistant teacher in the Central Model Infants' School on 21st February, 1946, due to the retirement of a member of the staff shortly before that date. Consideration of the question of the staffing of this school was deferred on the occurrence of the teachers' strike. The normal staff of the school is ten teachers and I regard such a staff as adequate.
With regard to the Pro-Cathedral and St. Patrick's No. 2 National Schools, I regret that, as I have already stated, I cannot give the number of pupils on rolls on 21st February, 1946. There is no recent official information available in regard to the number of pupils on rolls in each class in these schools. The total number on rolls on 31st December, 1945 (the last date for which the information is available) and the average attendances for the quarter ended on that date were as follows:—
Roll No. |
School |
No. of pupils on rolls on 31st December, 1945 |

The staffs of these schools appear to me to be adequate.
In the case of the Gardiner Street Convent and St. Vincent's Convent National Schools, the existing position as regards staffing does not appear to me to be satisfactory and I am having the matter looked into by my Department.
