Vol. 103 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Mitchelstown Telephone Service.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if he will state whether he has received representations, on behalf of the people of Mitchelstown, that the shutting down of the telephone service at 10 p.m. is a source of grave inconvenience; and whether he will take steps to see that the service is extended to 12 midnight.

Representations have been received for an extension of the hours of service at Mitchelstown exchange. The general question of affording continuous attendance at the larger exchanges, including Mitchelstown, where the hours of service are restricted, is at present being considered. I regret I cannot give a precise indication at this stage when continuous service will be provided. The matter will be dealt with as expeditiously as possible.

Do I understand that Mitchelstown will have to wait until other places are being dealt with at the same time?

As I said in my reply, the matter is being dealt with as expeditiously as possible and I cannot add anything to that.

The Minister could not say what the cost of extending it to Mitchelstown would be?

I could not say at the moment.
