Vol. 103 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Cork Mail Service.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if his attention has been drawn to the grave dissatisfaction that exists in the peninsular rural areas extending from the towns of Bantry and Skibbereen owing to the great delay and irregularity in the delivery of the mails from those towns; and whether, now that better rail facilities are available which bring the mails earlier each day to those towns, he will ensure that rural mails will be delivered from Bantry and Skibbereen on the actual day of their arrival in those towns.

Since November 4th improved rail services are operative and have enabled delivery of night mail correspondence to be effected on the day of receipt in all rural areas served from Skibbereen and in some of the rural areas served from Bantry, including the Durrus and Kilcrohane districts. There are still certain difficulties in the way of accelerating delivery in the Castletown Bere and Allihies areas but the matter is being examined with a view to effecting without delay any possible improvement.
