Vol. 103 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Diplomatic Relations with India.

asked the Minister for External Affairs if the Government propose to enter into diplomatic relations with the recently appointed Government of India.

We would be glad to welcome an exchange of diplomatic representatives with India—a country for which we have always entertained the friendliest feelings. We have, however, prior commitments in other directions. We have, for instance, already in Dublin diplomatic representation which we have yet to reciprocate. I would prefer, therefore, not to make any proposal until it is possible to give it immediate effect.
