Vol. 103 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Fuel Supply in Graiguenamanagh.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he is aware that until last week no fuel was available for distribution in Graiguenamanagh; and if he intends to take steps to have regular supplies of fuel made available to that town.

I am not aware that the position is as stated by the Deputy. Having regard to the particularly difficult turf supply position this year, unavoidable interruptions in deliveries to outlying areas may occur, but on the whole I am satisfied that the arrangements to meet the fuel requirements of Graiguenamanagh are adequate.

Is the Minister not aware that up to last week there was no turf whatever in Graiguenamanagh? The position was temporarily relieved by the arrival of 8 lorries last week but there is considerable anxiety as to whether a regular supply will be maintained during the winter months. There is no alternative fuel available— no timber and, of course, no coal. In these circumstances would the Minister take steps to ensure a regular supply of turf for this area in future?

These steps are being taken.
