Vol. 103 No. 12

Referendum (Amendment) Bill, 1946—From the Seanad.

The Dáil went into Committee to consider amendments from the Seanad.

I move that the Committee agree with the Seanad in amendment No. 1:—

In Section 2, sub-section (1), line 16, the words "if any" deleted.

This is a drafting amendment.

Question put and agreed to.

I move that the Committee agree with the Seanad in amendment No. 2:—

At the end of Section 3, the following two paragraphs inserted:—

(d) by the insertion in paragraph (3) of Rule 32, of the words "President and the" before the word "Taoiseach";

(e) by the insertion in paragraph (4) of Rule 32, of the words "President and the" before the word "Taoiseach".

This is proposed with the object of giving a direct message to the President as to the result of a referendum. It is thought desirable that the President should receive the result independently of the Taoiseach.

Question put and agreed to.
Reported that the Committee had agreed with the Seanad amendments.
Report agreed to.
Seanad Éireann to be notified accordingly.
