Vol. 103 No. 13

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Cappoquin Fuel Supply.

asked the Minister for Lands if he will state if representations have been made by Deputies and Senators and by the Cappoquin Parish Council to his Department for the release of timber from State forests for fuel in that area; and if he will state what steps have been taken for the immediate release of such timber to meet the urgent needs of the poor for such fuel.

I have received representations from Deputies, Senators and the local parish council regarding the supply of firewood for the Cappoquin area. Some small quantities of blown timber, brushwood etc., have been on sale regularly and the question of making larger supplies of firewood available has been delayed by flood damage to the avenue along which the firewood must be extracted. This has now been repaired and the felling of firewood will be put in hands immediately with a view to early local sales.
