Vol. 103 No. 13

Committee on Finance. - Unemployment Insurance Bill, 1946—Money Resolution.

I move:—

That for the purpose of any Act of the present Session to enable effect to be given in the State to certain contemplated arrangements under which the Government of the United Kingdom are to undertake to meet the cost of paying benefits, in respect of unemployment in the State, to certain persons who served in the forces of the said Government and to amend the Unemployment Insurance Acts, 1920 to 1945, it is expedient to authorise the payment out of moneys provided by the Oireachtas of any expenses (other than payment of the said benefits) incurred in giving effect to such Act.

As I explained to the Dáil, the cost of the special benefit which the Bill provides will be recovered from the British Unemployment Fund. The administration cost will be made up out of moneys voted by the Oireachtas, but it is almost impossible to say what the administrative cost will be, as the special benefit will be administered through the normal unemployment insurance organisation of this country.

It will not be very much?

The additional cost will be very little.
